Time to re-up

A good year

We opened the new Boathouse and Filter Building last year, added boats to our masters and Junior Crew fleets, masters coaching was offered and it paid off in some very respectable performances at regattas and the SWEAT.

Our Junior Crew continues to grow and improve under the very able direction of Coach Ryan White. More summer recruiting camps will be held.

We have plans for even more new programs this spring and summer. Physiological testing based training schedules for various rowing goals, nutritional counseling for weight loss and/or performance, individual masters coaching, and video sessions will be offered on an a la carte basis.

Our erg workouts will be scheduled and supervised and the workouts will be offered for specific goals; weight loss, general aerobic fitness, strength building, improved race times. Look for some supervised big boat workouts for Masters as soon as Daylight Savings Time returns in early March.

And of course, Sinko de Mayo is not too far off.

Membership time

Your membership is valued and appreciated. It not only provides you with a great fitness and athletic resource at a very reasonable cost, it also helps support our very worth-while public school crew. Indications are that we will be asked to provide more scholarships this year as economic conditions continue to deteriorate. So please renew your membership and consider a tax-deductible contribution above and beyond club dues.

Girls Inc. post summer rowing camp photo gallery

The Boathouse partnered with Girls Inc. of Metropolitan Dallas this past summer for a rowing camp. The organization has posted some great photos of the camp, including pics of the ergs in the new boathouse and some great on-the-water shots.

Check it all out here.

Well, not quite. But we’re getting caught up on photos, thanks to the persistence of Arne. Check out the latest at the Photo Gallery.

If you have Boathouse photos you’d like posted, please size and compress them to 800x600 or 600x800 and email them to your webmaster.

Singles, oars, and colored bands

And now, an update. If you haven’t already figured it out, there have been a few changes at the boathouse:

  • All club singles are now stored bow in.
  • There are large numbers on the boathouse doors in front of each club boat, which let you know which boat goes where. Please replace the boat in its correct slot when you come back from a row.
  • All club oars have two yellow bands. If you’re rowing a club boat, use these oars only.
  • Club boats have colored tape on the riggers that match up with the color coded bumpers on each side of the docks, visible from the lake side. These colors will help you find the right dock on busy days.
