FLYWEIGHT - Open for business

Steve has set up a reservation slot for the new Maas Flyweight we’ve added to our flotilla.  You can make reservations for the boat under “FW A.”  This should lead one to the conclusion that we may end up with more of these - you may be right, but we’ll let demand dictate that decision.

Please bear in mind the Flyweight is rated for 140 pounds maximum.  Sam suggests that’s probably 10 to 15 pounds more than should ever be in it.  As we only have one - please be mindful of your weight and skill level.  If you are in question please either don’t row it or talk to Sam first.

This seems to be the perfect boat for those of you who have already lost your “3 inches.”  It’s the same length as a 24, but narrower, nimbler, and therefore easier to get off the racks.  If you are making the move from the Aero’s to the longer boats Sam recommends you first get comfortable in a standard 24 before you try out the Flyweight.

Thank You!

A hearty thanks to all who showed up Saturday morning and made quick work of washing down the House, and washing/waxing the boats.  It’s a great thing when we get such a strong turnout to keep “our” House lookin’ good.

Kudos out to the Weekend Gang

Building the new floater were Ronnie (I ain’t no freakin’ carpenter) Vaughn, Jonathan (I ain’t no freakin’ carpenter) Thalheimer and his precious daughter and howlin’ hound dog, John (I don’t need no stinkin’ dowels) Mullen, Allen (I have all the tools known to man) See, Tim & Eileen (the quietest competent carpenters you’ll ever know) Jeffery, and Cranky Sam.  A hearty WRBH thanks to all of you.  Who’d have thunk 2 years ago we’d have all the single slips filled with floaters - an amazing thing, and virtually impossible without membership help.

On the House side was Nan (where da heck did ya get dem boots?) Miller, Kurt (I should be rowin’) Schwartz, Lynn (you guys are nuts) Mckie, and Connie (I can charge your batteries) Dozier.  Kudos to use guys as well.  Haven’t had a chance to review, but I’m sure y’all did a bang up job getting a much needing wax job  on the club boats.  Thanks out to all of you as well - it was a much needed exercise.  If I missed somebody please pop me upside the head at the Sinko party.

It’s this spirit of volunteerism that makes this club great.  Great to be involved in something with such a spirit of one for all and all for one, great to be a part of a physically challenging yet rewarding sport, and great to get to know you folks.  This is a good thang we got goin’ here people.

Don’t forget Nan’s 2nd annual Sinko-day-Mayo is just around the corner!  We’ll have a veritable party barge waiting for you come next Saturday.

Stay tuned - House logo comin’ soon!

DED's being implemented

Eventually the winds will die down and the masses will start returning to the Maas’s.  We are in the process of installing DED’s on every dock which you will need to move before you launch (should be self-explanatory, but ya never know).  We will eventually have a place to hang each on the rack next to the dock, but for the time being just lean it on the wall until you get back.  Please be careful with the stuff - the prongs are quite sharp.  Just use the rope provided to lift it off the dock, and then grab the back side of the board, with the rope, to handle it.

Please remember to put the DED back on the end of the dock after you return.  That is unless another boat on your rack is still out.  We are hoping this will work wonders for the extremely high localized BOD in and around the House.

Here WE grow again!

Sorry, couldn’t resist.

Kudo’s out to the dock builiding gang: Sam, James Craig, George (I don’t eat no stinkin’ French Fries) Bramblett, Allen (I have every tool known to man) See, John (the Man with the plans) Mullen, and Ms. Ginger for her moral support over the weekend.  The crew has framed out 2 new docks that will be going in where John’s skiffs used to be stored.  One of the docks will be dedicated to lessons which will free up the House boats (and docks) for rowing members (great idea Sam and Ginger).  I’m being told that “we” have a greater number of requests for lessons than we did this time last year - words of encouragement and thanks are always appreciated by Sam and Ginger.  They’ve yet another arduous (and often thankless) summer of swelling the House ranks with new members.

The new docks will provide access for addtional private and club boats coming into the House.  The frames just need foam billets and decking and they’ll be ready for use in the next week or so.  The racks will probably be ready next weekend.

Spring is here; now if the winds would just cooperate - Let’s Row!
